Smartphones are part of daily routine and are crucial tools for accessing information and entertainment in today's digital world. But they are also addictive and a source of permanent distraction that can lead to disturbances in the user's mental well-being.

To ensure that the digital world gives users respite, Apple, Google and Samsung have equipped their interfaces with features that promote more conscious and less invasive smartphone use, with true moments of digital silence.

In its interface, Apple included a very comprehensive panel that shows in detail how the consumer uses the applications. Here you can view the time spent using apps, social networks included, and the number of times the phone is answered.

In this panel, users can define some limits on applications, schedule terminal downtime and also take advantage of the “do not disturb” mode for a true digital detox.

Google Digital Wellbeing

This Google feature is similar to its rival Apple's screen time. The feature also provides statistics on how the smartphone is used.

With this feature, users can set timers for some applications, schedule “quiet periods” and silence notifications.

Here you will also find the focus mode that allows you to temporarily block applications that are most distracting to the user.

Samsung bets on an equipment integration approach

Samsung has a slightly different approach to its competitors. Your Timer App integrates with the Bixby virtual assistant routines, making automatic adjustments based on time, location or activity.

The Wind Down functionality is also available, which provides calm bedtime routines, integrating with other smart lighting devices to reduce ambient light in the period before rest.

These are some of the available features that aim to increase the user's mental well-being through a temporary separation from the digital world. Add to that the recommendation from all manufacturers for more conscious use of the smartphone, based on a shorter amount of time in front of the small screen.
