Samsung Electronics has reported the launch of mass production of the PM9E1 NVMe drive. This is the fastest M.2 SSD in the South Korean giant’s range. It uses the PCI Express 5.0 x4 interface and provides sequential read speeds of about 14.5 GB/s and write speeds of about 13 GB/s.
The PM9E1 solid-state drives are based on Samsung’s own 5-nm controller and eighth-generation V-NAND flash memory chips with three bits per cell (TLC). As the manufacturer emphasizes, the energy efficiency of the SSD has increased by more than 50% compared to previous-generation solutions. The new devices will be offered in 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB capacities.
There is no information yet regarding the price and availability of the Samsung PM9E1 NVMe drives. Traditionally, such devices are intended for OEM manufacturers. It is quite possible that Samsung will soon introduce Pro/Evo series drives with a similar platform.
