Aroged: Samsung dreams of getting ahead of competitors in the sphere of CXL memory supplies

Modules of this type will begin to be delivered this half of the year.

Samsung Electronics, if you believe it Nikkei Asian Reviewis still painfully experiencing its lag in the HBM segment compared to its smaller competitor SK hynix, and therefore it expects to take a leading position in the market of memory modules with the CXL interface for server systems from the very beginning. At the very least, Samsung remains the only memory manufacturer that is a member of the CXL consortium, and therefore this may provide it with some advantage.

The CXL standard, which Samsung has been involved in developing for several years, allows for a tenfold increase in the amount of RAM supported by a single server. The company developed its first memory module with the CXL interface back in 2021, and it plans to begin shipping serial modules of this type this half of the year. However, the mass use of memory with the CXL interface, according to the company’s forecasts, will not begin before 2027 or 2028. Active work is currently underway to reduce the cost of its production and create the necessary infrastructure.
